About the 2020s
The decade of the 2020s started with ACT being dark for the entire 2020 mainstage season. While closed for the pandemic, there was a change in leadership as Anita Shah moved in as Managing Director. The first play after the pandemic closure was Hotter Than Egypt, written by Core Company member Yussef el Guindi - a world premiere.

Luv (1967)
Just released, this smash hit comedy ran for three years on Broadway. Walter Kerr called it “the answer to the theatergoer’s prayer.” Time Magazine says playwright Schisgal “refuses to keep a straight face before some of the pious obsessions of the contemporary world and stage . . . In LUV he devastates these themes in a holocaust of laughter."

The Deputy (1967)
This play has been seen in the major capitals of the world, and must be seen in Seattle. Eric Bentley maintains that “The Deputy" has created “the largest storm ever raised by a play in the whole history of the drama.” Lt is a controversial play: a taut, moving play that raises many questions. It is a theatre experience not to be missed.

Out at Sea/Striptease (1967)
These are two insanely funny, political farces from behind the Iron Curtain. Mrozek, a political satirist, has just been discovered by the West. Produced for the first time in London last summer, and in Paris this winter, he will be first produced in New York next fall, and at the Guthrie next winter. Meanwhile you can see him this summer in Seattle, in an American premiere.

After the Fall (1967)
The latest successful play by a distinguished American playwright. Written especially for the first Lincoln Center Repertory, it was their most brilliant and successful production, play in two seasons. It was written for the thrust stage, and moves fluidly back and forth in time. The play is a touching apologia for his life, and will be an important theatrical event in Seattle.

The Great Divide (1967)
Often called “the first modern American play,” it created a great furor in 1906 when contemporary critics called it a “sex play.” Lt played over 1,000 performances, was produced in London, and had at least 6 national tours. lt is an exciting, active play about the collision of two American cultures: the refined, Puritan east, and the rough, open west. It will certainly entertain you. We, and director Tom Hill, think it will surprise you!

The Caretaker (1967)
This amusing, original elusive play more than any other has established Pinter as one of the leaders of the New English Theatre. In a world which has become Pinter-conscious, this is regarded as his most successful and important play. His one-acts, “The Collection" and “The Room” were seen last summer at ACT, and “The Homecoming" has just won most of the Tony Awards in New York. You will want to see this play.
